Dr. Qasem’s Lasik Interview

Dr. Qasem’s Lasik Interview

The patient got few steps of assessment to decide on which treatment is suitable for him and the best technique for the patient which can vary from patient to patient.

Q: We notice that this treatment will not take too long.

A: The advantage of this new technology is the short duration of treatment and the less amount of energy delivered to the eye which reduced the possibility of side effects. The average time of treatment is 30 seconds for each eye.

Q: Is there anaesthesia and is the patient awake during treatment?

A: For sure the patient has to be fully awake and cooperative during the treatment, topical anaesthetic drops is used, isolation of the eyelashes is done prior to treatment to reduce risk of infection, special instrument is used to keep the eye open, the patient eye is monitored during the treatment and is tracked by a complex tracking system on the laser machine. If the patient moved his eye outside the treatment range, the machine automatically stops which minimize any possibility of error which is like sensors or monitoring cameras.

Q: What is important after the treatment to achieve good result?

A: Of course, follow-up after treatment is very crucial to achieve the optimum result follow-up treatment and attending the doctor for the after care is an important factor in the success of treatment.

Video 2 started showing the treatment

P: For more details about this advanced treatment we have Dr. Qasem Qasim Consultant Ophthalmologist to talk about this new treatment. Good Morning

Q: What is the light name of this treatment?

A: It is called SupraLasik which is a surface ablation laser treatment. It is an advanced technology with no intervention to correct vision with laser. It doesn’t involve cutting into the cornea with a very good results and good outcome and with no complications.

Q: Which type of cases is suitable for this treatment?

A: This technology is usually suitable for moderate cases and especially for those who have low corneal thickness which is usually for certain degrees of short-sightedness or long-sightedness which can range from +4.00 to -7.00.

Q: What is the success rate?

A: There’s no treatment that has 100% success rate but with this technology the success rate is almost 99%.

Q: Excellent.

A: The most important factor for success is the pre-treatment assessment as we’ve seen on the video. Before deciding on treatment, the patient goes through few steps of assessment to decide on the level of treatment and which technology is most appropriate for him/her. There’s no treatment that can be applied on every patient. For every case there’s more appropriate choice depending on the pre-surgery assessment.

Q: We notice it doesn’t take too much time, is it on every patient?

A: Exactly. The advantage of this advanced technology is the short duration of time, the level of energy used to deliver this treatment; the treatment takes few seconds with low energy delivered to the eyes which will __ by which we avoid many complications or side effects.

3rd video started playing.

Now we will watch a report about a new technology for vision correction. Let’s watch the report.

Good morning, today we have a patient who is interested in vision correction. Let’s have a look and see what happens.

P: Goodmorning Dr.

D: You are interested in laser surgery? Can you tell us how you’ve got through assessment?

P: Video playing. (patient speaking)

D: Are you ready for the surgery?

P: Yes I am. I’m a little bit afraid.
